This video was made during the "Volga Youth Press" festival which was near Tolyatti, Russia. We had a task to tell about the city "from an interesting point of view". The city itself is very grey and sad and has unfortunately nothing in common with Italy despite its name.
When we entered the town, devastation, gloom and an enormous puddle caught our attention first. The puddle was so huge, that literally if anyone came close they would be covered with mud and water because of the cars passing by.
I think nothing can describe the city better than its own people's opinions about it. The video turned out to be street talk full of jokes about the color, size and shape by locals. One girl even said that there might be a Loch Ness monster in the puddle.
Since my last year in high school, I have been developing my own school project. I found some old radio equipment at school and thought that it might be fun to make my own radio station. For many years there had been nothing like that in school -- so, I created it! I really enjoyed livening up the grey school routine with music and fun announcements.
Some time later, when I came to the Media Center, I decided to make a kind of excursion into the radio room. Many people were sending requests for some songs but not many of them actually knew where the radio station was and how it worked.
In high school, 3 out of 4 years I had the same history teacher. She had graduated from our lyceum and I was always interested in why she decided to return. It was very hard to persuade her to star in my interview, but after some time she agreed!
The purpose of the interview was to reveal her as a person to students. How did she become a historian? Why is she a specialist in 20th century history?
Our dialogue turned out to be a really cozy discussion of history, historical memes and our beloved school!
During the 5-day "Volga Youth Press" festival we had to work as a team and release multiple videos. One of them was about a local technical museum. I worked as a producer and video editor.
At first sight it seemed hard to find something interesting to say about the old soviet war museum, but it turned out that there are many thrilling stories behind almost each exhibit. Even boring and drab exhibitions can be fun and interesting for teens if you tell about it from the right point of view!
I find filming static interviews quite challenging. Although they do not require any rush, as street talks do, their quality fully depends on the location -- the position of the light, microphones and many other features. In these particular episodes I was an operator. The purpose of my work was just technical -- film good raw material.
As I mentioned above, we went to the international festival "Volga Youth Press". All of our works which were filmed during the festival were honored. In addition, my episode about International Women's Day won an award too!
During my education in the Media School of Moscow State University, I met my friend with whom we were doing all of our group projects. Later, I was her teammate during the all-Russian students competition "The Big Break" where she won some money she decided to invest in some project. This summer we came up with the idea of "Parla Soltanto''.
We tell stories of people whose hobby became much more than just an interest. About people who were not afraid to change their lives dramatically.
I am a producer and a video editor there. It usually takes from three to five hours to edit one short episode. Soon, we are planning to release our show on YouTube as Podcasts. I will be managing this area of our project and editing sound too. For now, you can check our videos and posts on Instagram!
