ANJUTA POPOVA
Portfolio
HELLO!
My name is Anjuta Popova. I'm a future media producer.
I started my journey in production a few years ago. I'm here to show you some of my results!
I have worked with: Moscow State University, Media Center 1535 and Higher School of Economics
I STARTED AS A REPORTER
2018-2020
Moscow State University Media School
This is my graduating diploma!
I WAS PUBLISHED HERE!
The Newspaper
Moscow State University has been publishing its newspaper monthly since 2007. Every year, there is one month when the whole newspaper is done by Media School students. Traditionally, for the rest of the year it is hanging in the dean's office.
My article was about new media trends.
The world is developing very fast, so we should always keep track of changes in audience interests. But how to do that? The answers are targeted advertising, algorithmic distribution and analysis of metrics!
One more fast growing trend is gamification. It is helpful in stimulation of user interest.
Finally, VR is immersing us into a whole new reality! Journalism is not an exception! Check, for example, Nonny de la Peña's works!

AFTER GRADUATING I WORKED AT THE SCHOOL MEDIA CENTER
2021
MEDIA CENTER 1535
Our job was in creation media content for our school's students.
We had different types of videos which names and content we had invented ourselves. The overview of some school news and students' opinions is called "In Short" and the big interviews with charming teachers or outstanding students - "Post Pigeon".
Here is some of my work!
International Women's Day
There is a great bias in Russia that International Women's Day is a day for celebration of women's beauty, femininity and tenderness. While in reality it is the day of struggle for equal rights with men and emancipation. I find those interpretations of the celebration are in opposition to each other.
My mission in this video was to find out how many young people had been aware of this. To my surprise, many of them were. In addition, I was interested in what they would wish for girls on this day, after shifting their attention to the real importance of the celebration. And for entertainment everyone had to sing some song about women!
The video turned out both funny and serious. I really enjoy conveying to the viewer important topics and arousing their interest at the same time.

Almost Italy!

This video was made during the "Volga Youth Press" festival which was near Tolyatti, Russia. We had a task to tell about the city "from an interesting point of view". The city itself is very grey and sad and has unfortunately nothing in common with Italy despite its name.

When we entered the town, devastation, gloom and an enormous puddle caught our attention first. The puddle was so huge, that literally if anyone came close they would be covered with mud and water because of the cars passing by.

I think nothing can describe the city better than its own people's opinions about it. The video turned out to be street talk full of jokes about the color, size and shape by locals. One girl even said that there might be a Loch Ness monster in the puddle.

Radio Room

Since my last year in  high school, I have been developing my own school project. I found some old radio equipment at school and thought that it might be fun to make my own radio station. For many years there had been nothing like that in school -- so, I created it! I really enjoyed livening up the grey school routine with music and fun announcements.

Some time later, when I came to the Media Center, I decided to make a kind of excursion into the radio room. Many people were sending requests for some songs but not many of them actually knew where the radio station was and how it worked.

Post Pigeon: Interview with a historian

In high school, 3 out of 4 years I had the same history teacher. She had graduated from our lyceum and I was always interested in why she decided to return. It was very hard to persuade her to star in my interview, but after some time she agreed!

The purpose of the interview was to reveal her as a person to students. How did she become a historian? Why is she a specialist  in 20th century history?

Our dialogue turned out to be a really cozy discussion of history, historical memes and our beloved school!

Technical Museum

During the 5-day "Volga Youth Press" festival we had to work as a team and release multiple videos. One of them was about a local technical museum. I worked as a producer and video editor.

At first sight it seemed hard to find something interesting to say about the old soviet war museum, but it turned out that there are many thrilling stories behind almost each exhibit. Even boring and drab exhibitions can be fun and interesting for teens if you tell about it from the right point of view!

Interviews

I find filming static interviews quite challenging. Although they do not require any rush, as street talks do, their quality fully depends on the location -- the position of the light, microphones and many other features. In these particular episodes I was an operator. The purpose of my work was just technical -- film good raw material.

Honors

As I mentioned above, we went to the international festival "Volga Youth Press". All of our works which were filmed during the festival were honored. In addition, my episode about International Women's Day won an award too!

At school I was awarded for the creative contribution to the schools infrastructure
"Lyceum Standard" School No. 1535

Personal brand
Parla Soltanto
History

During my education in the Media School of Moscow State University, I met my friend with whom we were doing all of our group projects. Later, I was her teammate during the all-Russian students competition "The Big Break" where she won some money she decided to invest in some project. This summer we came up with the idea of "Parla Soltanto''.

Idea

We tell stories of people whose hobby became much more than just an interest. About people who were not afraid to change their lives dramatically.

I am a producer and a video editor there. It usually takes from three to five hours to edit one short episode. Soon, we are planning to release our show on YouTube as Podcasts. I will be managing this area of our project and editing sound too. For now, you can check our videos and posts on Instagram!
